Muslim Greens and Greens of Colour Stand against Misinformation, Defamation and Hate – 6 January 2025

The billionaire class will stop at nothing to protect their interests, often exploiting figures like Stephen Yaxley-Lennon (commonly known as Tommy Robinson) to further their divisive agendas.

A video about paedophile rings was uploaded to X by Tommy Robinson on 3 January 2025. It features a clip of Green Party Councillor Mothin Ali, who has no association with these horrendous crimes. Retweeted by Elon Musk, the video has amassed over 33 million views, 306,000 likes, and 70,000 shares to date.

The video is both factually incorrect and designed to inflame tensions and stoke racial hatred. We have seen the devastating impact of such rhetoric as recently as this summer when racist riots led to violent attacks on individuals based solely on their ethnicity.

By promoting these harmful narratives, individuals like Musk, Robinson, and Nigel Farage scapegoat British Muslims and Asians, endangering their safety and fostering a climate of hostility and division.

Targeting our councillor is defamatory to him personally, his community, and the Green Party. Such actions are irresponsible, harmful and undermine the values of equality, fairness and respect that should define our society.

Issues such as grooming and sexual violence require serious, evidence-based solutions, not racist scapegoating. The 2020 Home Office report showed the largest group of offenders are white, and no ethnicity is disproportionately represented. Facts matter. Hate does not solve problems.

We demand the immediate removal of this video by Elon Musk and Tommy Robinson and call on both to issue public apologies across all platforms where the content was shared.

We urge British political leaders to unequivocally condemn these divisive acts and stand in solidarity with all British people, including Muslims.

We stand firmly behind Councillor Mothin Ali and take pride in his outstanding contributions to his ward and the Green Party. His dedication to fostering inclusivity and improving the lives of his constituents exemplifies the values we hold dear.

Greens become first political party in England and Wales to recognise Israeli government conduct as ‘Apartheid’ and ‘Genocide’

The Green Party has voted at its Manchester conference to recognise the Israeli government as an “apartheid” state, as defined by international treaties such as the International Convention on Apartheid (1973) and Rome Statute (1998).

The conference also voted to recognise Israeli military operations in Gaza as a “genocide” as defined under the UN Genocide Convention (1948).

Ellie Chowns, Green Party MP for North Herefordshire, said: “We don’t use terms like genocide or apartheid lightly, but they are a sad reflection of the atrocities being carried out by the Israeli State.

“This motion reflects International Humanitarian Law, including the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, and it is essential that British political parties unequivocally uphold these basic minimum standards of international law.”

The conference also reaffirmed support for the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign.

Ellie Chowns said: “We will only see an end to the escalating violence in the Middle East when there are clear incentives for all involved in the war in Gaza to agree to a ceasefire, the release of all hostages and an end to the occupation.

“We will press the UK government to step up its actions, including suspending all arms export licenses to Israel, and full co-operation with the actions of the international courts.

“Without an agreement, the intolerable death toll in Gaza will continue to rise, the hostages will be at greater risk and there will be an increased chance of sleepwalking into a larger regional war.”
